After completing your CCW course, applying for the permit, and receiving it, you will be all ready to carry your pistol concealed! We take a very thorough approach in our CCW course to fully prepare our trainees for daily carrying, but don’t feel surprised if it still makes you a little nervous at first. After all, it takes a lot of responsibility to carry a loaded weapon with you throughout the day. Follow these tips to build your confidence as you enter the world of concealed carrying.
Don’t Stop Training
One of the worst choices you could make after receiving your CCW permit is to stop your training altogether. Over time, your skills will begin to fade and you may find yourself much less effective than you’d hope in the event of an emergency. Remember when you first took the CCW course? Chances are, you had to fire off a few warmup rounds before really finding your groove, developing muscle memory, and starting to feel comfortable.
So, how can you stay in your groove and keep building your muscle memory? Practicing at the gun range is one option, but here are two courses we offer that build directly off the skills you acquired in your CCW course:
- Pistol 3: Leave the shooting lane behind and practice a variety of advanced skills outdoors.
- Skill Session: For the experienced shooter looking to highly develop one specific skill at a time and maximize their efficiency.
Choose Your Gear Wisely
New concealed carriers are sometimes worried their pistol will be detected in public. That is a valid concern! With careful style and gear choices, you should have zero issues staying fully concealed, however. Don’t worry- you’re not doomed to wearing Hawaiian shirts with baggy pants whenever you choose to carry. Start out by investing in a quality holster and belt combination that doesn’t require you to make constant adjustments throughout the day to stay comfortable. From there, you can still choose clothing that matches your usual style and aesthetic. You may need to do a little experimentation to find the ideal fit and coverage, but it will be worth your time. After all, defaulting to “tacti-cool” brands will just scream, “I am carrying a gun!”
